MSP LAUNCHES BUSINESS SURVEY IN HAWICK AND NEWCASTLETON

Published on Wed 30th Jan 2008

Jim Hume, MSP for the South of Scotland, and Councillors in Hawick and Newcastleton, have today launched a survey into the state of the towns’ businesses and local economy.

Jim Hume said:-

“It’s really important to constantly evaluate the state of any town’s economic activity and that’s exactly the purpose of my survey.

“I want to identify any common issues or problems faced by shopkeepers and businesses, and thereafter work to resolve them.

The MSP continued:-

“The surveys will be distributed in the next few days and once I’ve collated and evaluated all the responses, I’ll be in a good position to identify key areas which need to be improved.

“Peebles is a good example where the creation of a local traders’ association has helped shopkeepers and businesses in the town.

“A healthy local economy is essential in supporting a viable and thriving community.”
