Jim Hume MSP: South of Scotland

DAIRY INDUSTRY EXPECTS ACTION

Published on Thu 30th Apr 2009

Jim Hume, Liberal Democrat MSP for the South of Scotland, has commented after listening to the concerns of dairy farmers during a protest held at the Scottish Parliament yesterday (29th April).

Jim Hume said:

"The UK Ombudsman must be serious and have teeth, otherwise dairy farmers can have no confidence that the evidence they provide will be acted upon.

"The Scottish Government, however, can and must act on procurement and labelling. The industry expects action.

"It looks like that the long awaited dairy farmers summit is set to be announced. But after the fiasco of the pig task force, this must restore rather than undermine confidence."
