BORDERS TEXTILES ON THE AGENDA - SKILLS MINISTER TO VISIT EMPLOYERS IN THE BORDERSPublished on Fri 13th Nov 2009 Jim Hume MSP, Liberal Democrat MSP for the South of Scotland, has today received confirmation that Skills Minister Keith Brown MSP has accepted his invitation to visit the Borders to meet with textiles employers and discuss challenges facing the industry. The MSP met the Minister with representatives of the House of Cheviot last week to discuss in particular long term skills investment for the sector. Jim Hume said: "I am pleased that the Minister is coming to talk to textiles employers face to face to hear about the challenges the industry faces as the UK struggles to come out of the current recession. "Other European nations are investing in skills and we need to be sure that the Scottish textiles industry is given the necessary support to keep Scotland competitive. "The industry needs a firm show of support from the Scottish Government and a detailed plan of action including what role Skills Development Scotland will play."
