Jim Hume, MSP for the South of Scotland, today endorsed the NFU Scotland’s campaign What’s on your Plate and has lodged a motion in the Scottish Parliament asking MSPs to sign up to the online pledge to support Scottish food and drink.

Jim Hume said:-

“This is an excellent campaign and I am delighted to give it my full backing.

“The aim of the campaign is to get people thinking about where the food they eat comes from.

“More than that though, it’s also about encouraging people to think about the role our Scottish farmers play in the wider context of the countryside. And as consumers we can help our Scottish farmers by buying local and Scottish, and visiting farmers’ markets.

The MSP continued:-

“By supporting Scottish producers we are helping to cut down on food miles and importantly, Scottish farmers play a role in looking after the flora and fauna of our wonderful country which can only be a good thing so by supporting them we are safeguarding Scotland ecological future.

“And last but by no means least, we are very lucky in Scotland that farmers produce incredibly high quality food to very high animal welfare standards.”
