DUMFRIES AND GALLOWAY - FIRST IN LINE FOR METER SWITCHOVER

12.00.00am GMT Fri 14th Nov 2008

Jim Hume, MSP for the South of Scotland, is today urging Dumfries and Galloway residents who have a Scottish Power prepayment token meter to make sure they do not miss out on the new key meter exchange programme.

Jim Hume MSP said:

"Scottish Power is carrying out the exchange of all token meters and is replacing them with key meters and it's hugely important that households are not left out.

"If there are residents in the region who have not had their token meters exchanged and currently do not have an appointment to have the work carried out, I would urge them to phone Scottish Power on 0845 270 0201 as soon as possible.

The MSP continued:

"It's essential that energy supplies are not disrupted by the exchange programme and that people are able to get easy access to the new paypoints, some of which will be located in post offices. It's also of critical importance that elderly and vulnerable customers are given all the help and advice available to guide them through the change.

"I have asked for assurances from the company that these issues will be the top priorities throughout the exchange programme."
