FARMERS ENCOURAGED TO TAKE PART IN SINGLE FARM PAYMENT CONSULTATION

10.20.00am BST (GMT +0100) Fri 16th Oct 2009

Jim Hume, Liberal Democrat MSP for the South of Scotland, is encouraging farmers to take part in the NFU Scotland's discussion on the future of the Single Farm Payment (SFP).

The NFUS is conducting a series of meetings throughout Scotland throughout November and December.

Jim Hume said:

"No doubt there will be change to the current system so it's crucial for farmers to feed their views into that process.

"The SFP is worth roughly £400 million to Scotland's rural economy and is a significant support to producers. It's critical that those with an interest get involved so that whatever changes do take place after 2013, benefit the local rural economy in the south west of Scotland."
