Jim Hume MSP: South of Scotland

CALLS FOR THE HOME INSULATION SCHEME TO BE EXTENDED TO THE SOUTH OF SCOTLAND

3.10.00pm GMT Mon 9th Nov 2009

Jim Hume, Liberal Democrat MSP for the South of Scotland, will this week meet Housing and Communities Minister Alex Neil to press for the Home Insulation Scheme to be extended into the South of Scotland.

The Home Insulation Scheme (HIS) currently does not cover the South of Scotland.

Jim Hume said:

"The scheme is intended to provide roof or cavity wall insulation to all occupied homes which are deemed suitable at a reduced price, and free of charge to qualifying households, but only in certain qualifying areas of Scotland.

"At present, the scheme does not cover the South of Scotland and I want the Minister to change this by allowing householders in the region access to this money.

"If the Scottish Government is serious about tackling the difficult issue of fuel poverty, then the scheme should be available to all qualifying households. I shall be pressing the Minister to get the scheme into the South of Scotland."
